Round Scotland by RIB
IRC member Sandy Morrison is travelling around Scotland by RIB (a Rigid Inflatable Boat to landlubbers) to raise much needed funds! Here’s a recent report we received from him last Thursday (18th June):
We left Findhorn on the 6th of June and headed East towards Buckie, then onto Macduff where we spent the night. The following day we progressed to Stonehaven, running out of fuel south of Aberdeen - changed over to our reserve tank, of which we have three (the middle tank holds 95 ltrs); we then continued onwards to Stonehaven where we spent the night. Day 3 and we left Stonehaven for North Berwick at 10:30, arriving at 15:00. We were going to set off next day for St Abbs but, on arriving at the harbour, the RIB was high and dry; waited on high tide and left for St Abbs at 14:30. We then turned around and headed back up the Firth of Forth, arriving at the lock gates for the canal at 20:30.
The following day it was hoped that we would progress up the canal but, due to our late arrival, other boats had started moving up so we had to spend the day and night in Grangemouth. The following day we did get into the Canal and started our voyage, mooring up at Kirkintulloch for the night. The following day saw us out into the River Clyde and into the Firth of Clyde headed for Ardrishaig and the Crinan Canal, where we spent the Saturday night.
Sunday we progressed through the Canal arriving at Crinan at 16:00, where we moored up for the night.
On Monday we left for Mallaig arriving there at 18:30 and stayed over for another night. On Thesday 16th we left Mallaig heading for Kyle of Lochalsh where, we are at the moment waiting on weather before continuing onto Cape Wrath. The forecast is not good for the next three days: wind direction south westerly, veering south later force 5-7, sea state Moderate becoming rough to very rough.
