Channel Swim Attempt
Our Press Officer, Julie Ryan achieves 13 miles in her fundraising attempt to cross the English Channel after training for almost a year and raising £2,000 for the Corps.
Talking about her attempt, Julie writes;
I set off from Samphire Hoe (near Dover) at 0745hrs and the weather was glorious. The sea was calm and the sun was shining! I made good progress until just after 4 hours when the sea and wind got up!
The waves got higher and after 5 hours and ingesting lots of seawater it was decided to adandon the attempt as I was being dragged off course (towards Belgium!!) and going nowhere fast! I managed to swim 13 miles in 5 hours and 3 mins.
I have swum over 600miles since last September to train for this and I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me and given me lots of support - this means a lot to me - I have already raised £2,000 and that is set to get higher. The JustGiving account is still open so if anyone still wishes to donate they can here
I may be down but I am not out and I am swimming the length of Lake Windermere in September (10.5 miles) and John, I and Helen will be attempting to swim the Channel next year as a relay!!
Once again THANK YOU!
Kindest regards
Julie and John Ryan
